bye Mark

Student of economics and Brazilian jujitsu amateur - my friend Mark left Paris today, after two years here.
Before leaving, he agreed to be part of an ongoing portrait series I am working on of Americans in Paris.

My vision : him leaping through the air in his fighting gear, the gold dome of Invalides in the distance.  Then he told me there are no jumping moves in Brazilian jujitsu - its all about ground fighting and submission holds.  So...

....so we just enjoyed a sunny yet submission-free Sunday morning - he got out his "big guns" (muscles) and we crossed paths with a band of French girl scouts and a gendarme named Philipe who let me keep shooting even through I didn't have the authorization.  (I bribed him with a Polaroid.)

Le potager de Fillé sur Sarthe - the organic garden of the Michelin starred restaurant L'Arpège and the dusty chateau that shares the land.

great review :

‘I no longer wanted to be in a daily relationship with the corpse of an animal. I had a moment when I took a roast out into the dining room and the reality struck me that every day I was struggling to have a creative relationship with a corpse, a dead animal. And I could feel inside me the weight and the sadness of the cuisine animale.’
 - Alain Passard, chef l'Arpège and "prophet of la cuisine légumière"
