state fair

Checking out more local culture in Boise at the Western Idaho State Fair.  I don't think I have been to a fair in almost 20 years.

Bad day to be on my new "no white" diet (no white flour, white sugar, or milk).

Petting zoo - I could not tell if this poor mangy lamb was asleep on its feet or just waiting to die

the brontosaurus goat

The bunnies were so cute - then a 9 year old boy came out of nowhere yelling at me for taking pictures, saying it was against the rules, and made me delete some fine rabbit shots.  Normally I wouldn't give in to a kid, but it is Idaho and I don't know if this boy had any kinfolk waiting in the parking lot as backup.

So afterward, a nice mother and daughter who witnessed the verbal assault felt sorry for me and let me take a shot of their bunny, Nevaeh (that's "heaven" backwards).

Rooster crowing contest.  My favorite, the little man on the far left, was robbed of the title if you ask me.

Tater country

Not quite sure what this is exactly, but think it is very sweet.

Tour de Fat

The Tour de Fat is some kind of festival revolving around bicycles and beer

and costumes

and public displays of wackiness

and more beer.

( a trio of Hunter S. Thompsons)

I was very fortunate to meet Boise's Blond Bombshell, the exquisite Minerva Jayne

(the red balloon is casting the shadow she is standing in)

Dovima de Rabbitt -

yes, like the Dovima - 1950s supermodel and Avedon muse -

Dovima, otherwise known by the professional name of Désirée de Rabbitt, is un lapin à Paris - and now immortalized ; ) in my American in Paris series with her owners and bunny aficionados Bob and Jerry on a cool August morning in the Parc Monceau.

Boise Bound

Getting ready to leave on my almost annual summer sojourn in Idaho.  A friend of mine called Boise the "un-Paris" - which is exactly what I need by August - I love it there.  Gun toters, tea baggers, and gas guzzlers aside, Idaho reminds me of how big and beautiful America can be.
